Q1 - What is Wealth Management?
Wealth management is a comprehensive program that provides clients with a complete evaluation of their financial resources, personal risk tolerance, and capital need requirements. We work to identify, quantify, and prioritize the client's personal and financial goals. An investment policy, including an asset allocation model, is implemented and managed by the firm, designed to work towards the client's stated goals.
Q2 - Who has custody of my assets?
As a RIA, Noyes Capital does not hold any of your money. We assist our clients in opening their accounts at independent custodians, typically Fidelity Investments. These custodians allow us to choose among a full range of mutual funds, stocks, bonds and other investments. You then authorize us to direct the investments in those accounts. We cannot withdraw any money other than our management fee. We only recommend custodians that we believe to be strong and sound holders of your assets.
Q3 - What is Limited Discretionary Control?
Limited discretion is the authority our clients provide our firm relative to their investment portfolio. It authorizes the custodian of the client's assets (e.g., Fidelity) to accept our instructions regarding purchases and sales within the account. Limited discretion does not allow us to have funds dispersed from the account, other than delivery to the account owner at their address of record.
Q4 - Do you consult with me regarding the investment decisions?
While we prefer to work on a discretionary basis, regular client communications is important to our mutual success. This means that you delegate the day-to-day decisions to us. You are actively involved in setting up the strategic goals and risk parameters of your portfolio. We inform you on a regular basis, both in writing and/or verbally, as to how your portfolio is performing. You remain in control of the key decisions but delegate the day-to-day investment process to us.
Q5 - How do you keep me informed about my results and how they were achieved?
You receive regular reports from both the independent custodian and Noyes Capital. The custodian provides you with monthly statements and confirmations of every transaction. In addition, they have excellent websites that are easy to navigate.
Noyes Capital provides you with quarterly reports that analyze your portfolio performance, asset allocation and individual investments. We believe our reports are clear and concise.
Q6 - Do you work with individual stocks?
While we love to work with individual stocks, bonds, options, ETFs and closed-end funds, a prudent investment decision process forces us to recommend mutual funds and exchange-traded index funds as a cornerstone to every investment portfolio. We believe this is how the largest and most sophisticated pension funds manage their money. Individual stocks have their place, particularly in larger portfolios, but no one position should exceed 10% of an investor's investment assets. We will work with your existing equity holdings to integrate them into our diversified and prudent portfolio designs.
Q7 - I need more income, how can you help me?
If you are currently drawing income from your investments, it is important to protect your portfolio against inflation. In our opinion, a diversified portfolio of stocks, bonds, income securities and other investments gives you the best chance of drawing more income and providing inflation protection. In many cases, we can create a higher total portfolio return by diversifying your investments.
Q8 - Do you manage trading accounts?
We generally discourage trading accounts. I have been "trading" for many years and have had mixed results. For those bent on trading, we advise them to place at least 80% of their investment assets in a properly diversified investment account and speculate with no more than the remaining 20%. Stop loss rules and gain harvesting strategies are essential for success.
Q9 - Does Noyes Capital Management have a minimum fee or asset requirement?
Yes, we do. We seek families that have $750,000 to $10 million of investable assets. However, we will work with families with a slightly lower asset range if there is a good fit. We have a responsibility to our existing clients not to dilute our efforts.
Q10 - How often do you change investments in my account?
We do not generally 'trade' our client accounts. However, we will change the asset allocation and individual securities based upon our perception of changes in the investment environment. Specifically, we rebalance our clients' accounts within the parameters established by the Investment Policy Statement that reflects their needs and circumstances. We will also make special trades for tax purposes, changes in investment strategies, or changes in management or management style.
Q11 - How often do you review my investments and my account?
We monitor our clients' investments on a regular basis to search for news or developments that may impact performance. Each client's overall asset allocation is reviewed at least quarterly.
Q12 – As a new client, how long will it take to have my money invested?
Upon initial engagement of Noyes Capital Management, it will take from one week to three months to fully invest your assets.
Q13 - How can I get started?
The first step is an initial inquiry from you. We offer an initial consultation by phone or in-person. Should you decide to engage Noyes Capital Management, LLC, we will discuss what "next steps" might be appropriate for you. Most clients find the financial planning process to be stimulating and enlightening. We believe that the end result is greater peace of mind. We look forward to helping you build a brighter financial future!
